Brian Shaw Chairman, Asia Pacific

Based in Tokyo, Brian brings his global industry and government experience and perspective to Leagas Delaney’s fast growing operations in the region.

He was previously Managing Director, Business and member of the Board (2006-2010) at UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), a UK government organisation and the world’s largest national investment promotion agency. Working across a wide range of government departments, involving senior ministers, including the current and former Prime Ministers, he supported some of the largest foreign investments to come into the UK in recent years. Operational responsibility also covered international trade support across the UK and in some 100 markets globally.

His appointment followed roles as Acting Chief Executive, Director, Global Operations (2002-06) and Director Asia Pacific (1999-2002), the latter based in Tokyo, Japan for the Scottish Government. He was also Chairman of SCTR Ltd, the holding company for its US operations. He sat on the Transition Board that advised on the formation of the recently launched New Promotional Agency for London bringing together investment, tourism and film.

He has advised a number of national foreign investment bodies on international promotion including the Japanese Cabinet Office.

Private sector experience includes; Founder Managing Director of a successful environmental technology company, Sales Director and Regional Operations Management in companies providing products and technical or consultancy services across a wide range of industry sectors internationally.

He is actively involved in the development of global strategy with a US headquartered NGO focused on poverty alleviation recently visiting a range of projects in Bangladesh.

He is a graduate of the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School.

Based in Tokyo, Izumi is a Chartered Financial Analyst and brings her expertise in CSR and industry analysis to the team.

She served as statutory auditor for M3 (formerly So-net M3), a leading internet-based medical services company.

Capitalising on her previous financial industry experience, she advised top management on many milestones, including TSE1 listing and overseas M&A, as well as implementing strict due diligence practice on data security.

Previously, she spent more than 15 years in the financial industry, in both the sales and buying side located variously in New York, Tokyo, Edinburgh and London. Her expertise is in-depth industry analysis with a truly global perspective. Latterly, as a global pharmaceutical analyst, she consulted top management of J apanese companies on global markets.

Izumi has a keen interest in contributing her expertise to charity work. Pro bono contributions include advising the Alzheimer Society in London on research strategy covering corporate collaboration and ethics.

At Leagas Delaney Tokyo, Yuko brings extensive experience undertaking marketing communications assignments globally in the US, Europe and Japan to the team.

Over the last 25 years she has developed significant perspective on issues facing a diverse range of organisations covering high end audio, electronics manufacturing, broadcast, arts and retail sectors.

Companies with whom she has worked include Calvin Klein, IBM, Sony Ericsson, Pacific Microsonics, Kenwood and Linn Products. In addition to operations, her contributions have supported communications and localisation efforts in Japan and she has spent significant periods of time in Italy and South Africa.

A native Japanese speaker she is fluent in English and Italian.
